🎃 Day of Action Against ALPRs! 🎃
Date: Saturday, October 31, 2026
LOCATION: EVERY ALPR CAMERA IN BERKELEY
Did you know that there are 52 Flock automated license plate readers (ALPRs) around Berkeley?!
It’s easy to miss them because they are often installed at heights above our line of sight. We want to help our neighbor recognize where the ALPRs are and how they are being surveilled 24/7.
For one day, we’re putting every one of these ALPRs ON BLAST! And we need your help.
Grab your neighbors, your signs, and whatever else you think will draw attention, and show up at an ALPR (or 3) near you!
WHAT DOES AN ALPR PROTEST LOOK LIKE?
There is no right or wrong way to do this!

One person with a pool skimmer and poster can be just as effective as groups large or small.
Have you seen the Flock Blocker on social media? This 77 year-old man from Florida was regularly staging protests in his folding chair and holding up a DIY sign in front of the ALPR to block its view.
Or you could get some friends and neighbors together and get really creative with your signs, props, and even costumes!

PROTEST LOCATIONS
| Neighborhood | Intersection | Time | Host notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Claremont | Claremont & The Uplands (1 ALPR) | 1:30pm – | Please bring chalk! Let’s refresh the chalk signs pointing to the Flocks off Claremont Ave. |
| Poet’s Corner | University & Sacramento (3 ALPRs) | 10:30am – 12:30pm | Bring large signs with simple messaging or graphics for easy visibility. Costumes very welcome! |
| Southwest Berkeley | Ashby & San Pablo (3 ALPRs) | 11am – 1pm | Big legible signs are helpful given that most people are in cars! Also, if you’ve got respiratory sensitivities, a N95 can be helpful given the vehicular exhaust. Finally, all participation is at your own risk – be safe, keep it friendly, and have fun. See you there! |
| South Berkeley | Ashby & Sacramento (3 ALPRs) | 12pm-2pm | Wear costumes, bring signs, and come ready for singing! |
SIGN UP TO HOST A PROTEST!
We are looking for more people to host ALPR protests in our neighborhoods on October 31st!
Hosting just means you showing up at one of the intersections with ALPRs, at the time you pick, so others can join you to protest (like the ones listed above).
If you would like to host, just complete the 3 steps below:
1) Pick a a location and time for your protest! If you cannot edit this spreadsheet, skip to the next step.
2) Register your protest by completing this form.
3) Get creative and make signs! Or download some for printing.
- Tip: This is not required for your protest, but if you want to be able to block the ALPRs with your signs, try using an adjustable paint roller extender or fruit picker since the ALPRs are often installed high up on poles (9-12+ ft), or scout out the ALPR before the protest.
Other ideas to attract attention to your protest!
- Write sidewalk chalk messages telling people to look up at the ALPRs.
- Sing! See these virtual song sheets (with links to video samples) from Singing Resistance East Bay.
- Bring a portable speaker and play privacy or freedom themed songs. Some suggestions:
- “Somebody’s Watching Me” by Rockwell
- “Every Breath You Take” by The Police
- “Virtual Insanity” by Jamiroquai
- Come up with some clever chants.
- Do a flash mob around the ALPRs.
- Pass out educational materials to pedestrians. See downloadable BAMS materials.
Share our ALPR protest toolkit with others or point them to this page!

A word to the wise…
DO NOT TOUCH the ALPRs, which could lead to criminal charges like vandalism.
DO be nice, be safe, and have a good time!
